Review: Foxcroft - a taste adventure

Celebrating our 5th anniversary my husband and I decided to treat ourselves to a meal at Foxcroft. Having secured a babysitter for the evening, my husband and I were excited to spend an evening chatting, drinking wine and eating great food. Foxcroft is all about quality ingredients and flavour.

The Constantia valley has recently had an influx of Fine Dining establishments, which is honestly something that it has needed. It really is great to have restaurants of a high calibre on your doorstep.

To the foodie scene in Cape Town, Foxcroft requires no introduction. Glen Foxcroft Williams, chef and proprietor is a well known name in the culinary world. Making a point to use seasonal ingredients, support local farmers and source the finest ingredients, every dish produced in the kitchens of Foxcroft is a flavor adventure.

There are three Dinner options.

Option 1 – The Dinner menu at R545.00 per a person (which we opted for) Foxcroft bread, 2 tapas (one warm and one cold), 1 main course, 1 dessert

Option 2 – Tasting menu

Option 3 – Plant-Based Menu. This is the Dinner menu, but Dishes are vegan or can be made vegan.

So, what did we eat?

First – cold tapas

Yellowfin Tuna with 6-month kimchi, sesame, black vinegar

Salad of heirloom tomatoes with Feta crème, black olive, pine nut, fennel

Second – Warm Tapas

Free-range duck breast with Garlic, nectarine, green olive, thyme

Carrot & Coriander seed risotto, beurre noisette, sage, hazelnuts, labneh

Main

Oak Valley Pork Belly, Pomme purée, apple mustard, walnut, cider jus

Pan Roasted Game with Aubergine, beetroot, spicy salsa verde, ricotta

Dessert

Raspberries three ways, Tonka bean sable, cacao nib, smoked chocolate

Belnori Tanglewood -Raisin, pickled onion, radish, walnut

All the food was superb however there was some stand out dishes. The Yellowfin Tuna, Carrot & coriander seed risotto and the Belnori Tanglewood which is a sweet cheese.

Each staff members knowledge of the dish presented is incredible. It is rare that and establishment places so much emphasis on training their staff. This makes the evening more enjoyable.

I would highly recommend FoxCroft to people who would like a Fine Dining experience but in a more relaxed atmosphere. I would love to return and try their Plant based menu.

Special notes:

We took our own wine, but this is not necessary as they have a very well thought out and curated wine list. However, if you prefer taking your own wine, Corkage is R80.00 per a bottle and should not be a wine that is on their wine list.

We took a Buitenverwachting Meifort, which is one of my husband’s favourite wines.

Gratuity is already added to the bill.

Foxcroft is a reservation run restaurant however , they will assist walk ins during lunch service.

There are two Dinner Services. An early sitting and a latter sitting. If you are looking for a leisurely meal, select the later service so that you don’t feel rushed.
