Happy Women’s day to all my sisters.

In South Africa August is Women’s Month. We practically celebrate the strength of South African women on 9th August which is women’s day.

This post is dedicated to all the wonderful women that I have the privilege to know and have in my life. Mothers ( yes this includes my Mother In Law), mother figures , cousins, Aunties , sister and friends who have become my sisters. I count each one of you as a blessing. My woman tribe are the people I reach out to when I need a soft spot to land. They envelope me in love , support and offer a cup of tea ( or glass of wine – depending on the circumstances)

As we think back to the 20 000 brave women across races and religions joined together to protest against proposed amendments to the Urban Areas Act of 1950, Known as the Pass Laws.

The phrase "you strike a woman, you strike a rock" has come to represent women's courage and strength in South Africa. We are the daughters and decedents of these brave women. Decades later women in South Africa are still face significant issues such as, domestic violence, sexual harassment in the workplace and unequal pay.

Yes I am a Feminist but I don’t hate men. The theory that feminist are men hating, hair arm pitted , bra burning , angry, hags is completely wrong. Feminism to me ,is that all human beings should be allowed the same rights and freedoms ,free of prejudice.

I love being a woman. I love pretty things, having my nails done, I love high heels and wearing pretty dresses .I love being a mother and wife but I also really enjoy working and trying to build a career. Feminine energy is stronger than people realize. Women hold families, communities, societies and countries together. Being female doesn’t make you weak, we may be not as physically strong as our male counterparts but we have so many other strengths.

Many people talk about “girl hate” and bitchiness, I have honestly been lucky to have experienced very little of this in my adult life. Most of the women I know are so supportive of my endeavors , want to help and are my own cheer-leading troop. My Lady tribe as i like to call them, have my back. Some are new to my life but some I have now for decades. Coming from very different backgrounds we know one thing is true : Strong Women support other women.

Happy Women’s day to all my sisters.
