ELGIN VINTNERS HAVE COOL CLIMATE WINES IN THE CAN
Elgin Vintners are well-known in the wine industry for producing superior cool climate wines in the Elgin valley, Western Cape South Africa.
Elgin Vintners has joined the growing global trend for canned wine with the launch of Fynbos Lite, premium vintage red and white wines in convenient, eco-friendly packaging that are light in all senses of the word – a lighter carbon footprint, light on alcohol and lighter on the waistline.
Recently I was sent some wine by Elgin Vintners, they sent me their canned wine range for review. Initially I was a bit hesitant. I have previously tried some canned wine and I was not impressed but knowing the Elgin Vintners team they surely were going to produce something exceptional.
“Wine in a can?” “No, but why?”, “You can’t can wine”, “I would refuse to drink it!” were all things that people said when I mentioned that Elgin Vintners had made a range of canned wines.
With much hesitation I tried both the Elgin Vintners, Fynbos Lite red and the white. SOOO… long story short, I really like it!
Canned wines:
There are many benefits to producing canned wines.
· Easy to recycle – giving them a lighter carbon footprint than glass,
· Convenient (no need for corkscrews or bottle openers),
· Easy to store and transport,
· Light weight,
· Unbreakable (unlike glass),
· Packaging keeps the wine fresh,
· Portion control.
Great for:
· Those with an active lifestyle,
· Picnics,
· Concerts,
· Hiking and other outdoor activities,
· One friend who owns a Game Farm said these are perfect for serving to guests for Sundowners.
LITE BETTER FOR THE WAISTLINE:
Fynbos Lite is a low-alcohol wine, at 8.5% ABV . Not only is it low in alcohol it is also lower in kilojoules. Fynbos Lite wines are a third lower in kilojoules than regular wines, at 234-250kJ per 175ml serving.
Now you can enjoy a glass (can) of wine and not worry about the effect on your waistline.

The Fynbos LITE Range is dedicated to South Africa’s Conservation heroes. The packaging is just gorgeous. The beautiful packaging is a nod to the local flora “Fynbos”.
The Sugar Bird logo is proudly displayed on each can and bottle of Elgin Vintners wines.
Elgin Vintners is a WWF Conservation Champion, one of 38 environmental leaders in the Cape wine industry recognised for its contribution to biodiversity-friendly sustainable farming and environmental conservation. More than 100 ha of the Elgin Vintners farm is under conservation, with extensive clearing of alien vegetation helping to restore the balance of the ecosystem, and they have invested substantially in water quality by restoring and protecting the natural river system of the Palmiet River which runs through the farm.

FINAL THOUGHTS:
I am suitably impressed. The Premium White was my favourite.
Elgin Vintners you managed to change my perception of canned wines. The more I think about it the cleverer I think this idea is. You have put a premium product into packaging that makes it more accessible to the public.
I would buy a few cans if I were going campaign or hiking. The packaging is incredibly convenient.
The packaging is just exquisite. I think I have mentioned this before. I have not seen packaging this pretty for a long time.
Value for money. At R42.00 for a can. The can holds almost 2 glasses of wine. You will be hard pressed to find this quality of wine, per a glass at that price.

It’s a good excuse to go taste the new Fynbos LITE wines and make the decision up for yourself.
